Standard OD range
HDPE pipes conforming to IS 4984:2016 are manufactured in nominal outer diameters (OD) from 20 mm to 1600 mm. Almax’s standard production range is 20 mm to 315 mm, with larger sizes available on custom order. The OD is fixed by standard — the wall thickness varies with the PN rating and material grade.
Reading the size chart
For any given OD, the wall thickness increases with pressure rating (PN) and decreases with the material MRS. A PE 100 pipe at PN 10 will have a thinner wall than a PE 80 pipe at the same PN, because PE 100 has a higher Minimum Required Strength (10 MPa vs 8 MPa).
Small-diameter coils (20–75 mm)
HDPE pipes from 20 mm to 75 mm OD are supplied in coils of 100, 200 or 300 metres depending on grade and PN. Coil form dramatically reduces joint count in lateral irrigation and Jal Jeevan Mission house-connection networks.
Medium-diameter (90–160 mm)
Sizes 90 mm to 160 mm are commonly supplied as 6 or 12 m straight lengths. This range covers most rural water distribution, industrial process and PMKSY sprinkler sub-mains.
Large-diameter (180–315 mm)
Sizes 180 mm to 315 mm are used for trunk mains, sewer force mains and industrial distribution. Standard lengths are 6 or 12 m; custom lengths available on order.
Above 315 mm
Larger sizes up to 800–1000 mm are available on project-specific basis. For DWC applications, the ID rating is more critical than OD; refer to the DWC-specific chart on the DWC product page.
How to use this chart for procurement
For every procurement: (1) identify required internal diameter based on hydraulic sizing, (2) select the nearest standard OD accounting for wall thickness at the specified PN, (3) confirm the grade (PE 63/80/100), and (4) request the manufacturer’s dimensional MTC for the batch.
