BIS Standards for Plastic Pipes: A Quick Reference

IS 4984:2016 — HDPE Water Pipes

The primary standard for HDPE pipes used in potable water supply. Covers PE 63, PE 80 and PE 100 grades; PN 2.5 to PN 16 pressure ratings; sizes 20 mm to 1600 mm.

IS 14151 — HDPE Sprinkler Pipes

Covers HDPE pipes with quick-coupled joints for sprinkler irrigation. Part 1: pipes; Part 2: fittings. Widely used in PMKSY.

IS 17425:2020 — HDPE for Sewerage

Standard for solid-wall HDPE pipes used in underground sewerage — non-pressure applications.

IS 12786:2024 — HDPE for Irrigation

Governs HDPE pipes used specifically in agriculture irrigation systems, including sub-mains and drip network laterals.

IS 16098 (Part 2) — HDPE DWC

Standard for HDPE Double-Wall Corrugated pipes used in non-pressure sewerage and drainage. Defines SN 4 and SN 8 stiffness classes.

IS 14930 (Part 2) — PLB Ducts

Standard for HDPE PLB ducts used in telecom OFC networks. Complements TEC/GR/TX/CDS-008.

IS 4985 / IS 12818 — PVC Pipes

IS 4985: unplasticised PVC pipes for water supply. IS 12818: PVC pipes for casing borewells.

IS 15801 — PPR Pipes

Indian Standard for PPR-C pipes used in hot and cold water plumbing systems.
