DWC Pipe Guide: Sizing, Stiffness and Selection

Everything to specify HDPE Double-Wall Corrugated (DWC) pipes for sewerage, drainage and cable ducting.

5 min readReference

What DWC is

A twin-walled HDPE pipe with a corrugated exterior for structural strength and a smooth interior for hydraulic efficiency. Non-pressure application.

Stiffness classes: SN 4 and SN 8

SN 4 = minimum 4 kN/m² ring stiffness — for light-traffic and shallow installations. SN 8 = minimum 8 kN/m² — for heavy-traffic and deeper installations.

Standard sizes

ID 75 mm to 1000 mm are the standard range. Larger sizes on custom order.

Jointing

Integrated socket-spigot with EPDM rubber gasket. Fully leak-proof, root-resistant.

Applications

Municipal sewerage. Stormwater drainage. Highway cross-drainage. Cable ducting. Industrial effluent lines.

How to choose

Confirm the required ID for hydraulic flow. Pick SN 4 or SN 8 based on cover depth and traffic loading. Verify IS 16098 (Part 2) compliance and BIS marking.
